HOPE Scholarship Fast Facts

Did you know?

  • If you have previously received a baccalaureate (four year) college degree of any type you are no longer eligible for the HOPE Scholarship. This will NOT prevent a student from changing to the degree program.
  • Residency requirements are different for HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship. The major differences for the 10-11 school year include: Georgia Residency Requirements 2010-2011. The in-state waiver granted active duty military personnel and their dependants does not extend to the HOPE Scholarship program. Only Dependent Children of Military Personnel that are stationed in Georgia on active duty shall be treated as a Georgia Resident, for purposes of HOPE Scholarship eligibility.
  • If you are a graduate of a Georgia high school and a Georgia resident at the time of graduation- you then must have been a resident for 12 months prior to the first day of classes. If not a GA resident at the time of graduation then must be a resident for 24 months prior to the first day of class.  (p18) HOPE Regulations.
  • Attempted Hours: Credit hours are to be counted as Attempted-Hours regardless of whether the course was completed, the hours were earned, or a letter grade was recorded on the student’s official academic transcript. Credit hours are counted regardless of whether the student receives payment for those hours from the HOPE. It does not matter how old the course is or if it is still a valid course for transfer. All post-secondary course work from the point of high school counts (See definition on page 6 for Attempted-Hours). (Rules for Hope Scholars and Non-Hope Scholars differ as to when Degree credits for Attempted-Hours begin). Students are allowed a lifetime max of 190 quarter or 127 semester hours and then they are no longer eligible for HOPE Scholarship. (p. 6 and p. 28)  HOPE Regulations.
  • Combined Paid-Hours: The total number of Paid-Hours a student has accumulated from any combination of the HOPE Scholarship Program, plus HOPE Grant Program, plus Accel Program.  Students are allowed a lifetime max of 190 quarter or 127 semester hours and then they are no longer eligible for HOPE Scholarship. (p. 8 and p.28) HOPE Regulations.
