The event was held April 18-20th in Dublin, GA. According to Valdosta Tech instructors, “our students normally place well at State. This year was no exception! It was great to watch the intensity and focus of each student as they competed against hundreds of students throughout the Technical College System of Georgia.”
After competing in the local competition, the following instructors and students placed at the state competition: Instructor Mark Whitson and student Steven Tompkins, 1st place in Collision Repair Technology; Instructors Ed Cannington and Drew Vickers and students Lloyd Jackson and James Rankhorn, 2nd place in Mechatronics Team Event; Instructors Ed Cannington and Drew Vickers and student Wayne Salls, 3rd place in Industrial Motor Control; Instructor Nancy Elsberry and student Israel Lloyd, 3rd place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Steven Tompkins will be moving on to Nationals.
SkillsUSA is a professional organization that is designed to be run by students, for their own growth and benefit. Through chapter meetings, contests, leadership conferences, and activities students are able to build skills in technical and academic fields while increasing their employability. The SkillsUSA competition is a chance to compete against other students in the Technical College System of Georgia.
These instructors and students are all champions for technical education. Valdosta Technical College commends them for their hard work and great effort demonstrated during the competition. |
